Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested relevant ministries, sectors and localities to take prompt actions to deal with the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods and landslides, stabilise people’s life, and restore production and business activities to reach the unchanged economic growth target of 7%.

Addressing the Cabinet meeting on September 15 to discuss ways to overcome the consequences of the typhoon, PM Chinh instructed the banking system to consider extending debt repayment deadlines or launch zero-interest-rate loan packages and the Ministry of Finance to consider reducing or extending payment deadlines for taxes, fees, and charges.

PM Chinh asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to guarantee the supply of input materials for production and business.

The Government leader also required for efforts to speed up public investment disbursement; ensure budget collection along with fuel, power and water supply; efficiently use the donations; guarantee sufficient goods and materials for production and business; control prices; renew the three traditional growth drivers of investment, export, and consumption; boost new growth drivers; restructure crop and animal farming; and diversify markets, products, and supply chains.

PM Chinh  called for focusing on search and rescue operations for missing victims, arranging temporary housing for homeless people, and providing water, food and water to those in need, and medical care for sick and injured persons.

He urged authorities to immediately repair damaged schools and healthcare facilities to ensure people's access to education and healthcare services.

For residential areas swept away by landslides, the PM ordered authorities to complete reconstruction of these areas no later than December 31, 2024.

The typhoon, accompanying downpours, flooding, and landslides, had left 348 dead or missing and injured over 1,900 others.  Material losses were estimated at about VND40 trillion (over $1.6 billion), according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

The ministry said the country's GDP may shrink by 0.35% and 0.22% in the next two quarters and 0.15% this year.
