Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposed the US further open its market to Vietnamese products and cooperate to maintain the growth of two-way trade while meeting with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in Washington D.C. on September 19 (local time), the Government News has reported.

Prime Minister Chinh affirmed that Vietnam has taken economic, trade, and investment cooperation as a foundation and driving force of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the US, and spoke highly of the practical contributions the US Department of Commerce and its Secretary have made to boosting trade relations.

To effectively implement the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Prime Minister Chinh suggested the US soon recognize Vietnam’s market economy and continue to pay attention to promoting economic and trade relations, in particular encouraging US high-tech enterprises to operate in Vietnam and to step up delegation exchanges and experience sharing.

The two countries should promote cooperation in science and technology, innovation, education and training, climate change response, green growth, and renewable energy, he said.

Ms. Raimondo said US businesses are interested in seeking business and investment opportunities in Vietnam and she believes that after the conclusion of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity discussions that more US businesses and investment funds will inject capital into Vietnam.
