Vietnam has paid particular attention to developing AI, the automobile industry, and semiconductors, which are all important industries, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said.

He made the statement while chairing a dialogue with businesses on cooperation in AI, automobiles, and semiconductor chip and ecosystem development in Davos, Switzerland, on January 16 (local time), as part of his trip to attend the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The dialogue saw the participation of leaders from many world-leading tech giants, such as Google, Siemens, Mahindra, Ericsson, Visa Inc, and Qualcomm.

Vietnam has issued an AI development strategy and built national data centers to connect with those of ministries, sectors, and localities, he said.

Regarding the automobile industry, Vietnam focuses on developing electric vehicles, vehicles using clean fuel with low carbon emissions, and investing in green transport, according to the Prime Minister.

Vietnam has identified the semiconductor industry as a new growth driver and will invest in the sector to enable the country to take part in three stages of the semiconductor chip value chain, including design, manufacturing, and packaging, he said.

Underscoring the country’s determination to pursue and develop the semiconductor industry and build an appropriate ecosystem, he revealed that Vietnam plans to soon issue a strategy on development and a project to train 50,000 engineers in the field. This aims to promote cooperation between domestic and foreign enterprises and improve the quality of Vietnam’s human resources.

Representatives from major groups such as Google, Siemens, Qualcomn, and Ericsson expressed their appreciation of Vietnam’s development achievements and the country’s vision in green and sustainable economic development.

They committed to expand their investment and business operations in Vietnam and hope that the Vietnamese Government will continue creating conditions for businesses to invest in the fields of technology, innovation, semiconductors, AI, and strategic infrastructure.
