The Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR) revealed on July 4 that its total revenue topped over VND4.5 trillion ($177 million) in the first six months of this year, up 10.1% year-on-year.
Direct revenue from transportation activities is estimated at nearly VND2.5 trillion ($98.2 million), a year-on-year growth of 15.7%.
Passenger transport in the six-month period rose 20.6% year-on-year.
The railway sector has implemented many solutions to promote passenger and freight transport, particularly international rail routes.
The sector upgraded Cao Xa station in northern Hai Duong province for international transport and put it into operation in May this year. Together with other routes, the rail routes from Cao Xa station are directly connected with the railway systems of China and other countries along the Asia - Europe railway transport route.
The VNR set a target of gaining a revenue of over VND4.7 trillion ($184.6 million) in the last half of the year and profit of VND53.5 billion ($2.1 million).
