Ho Chi Minh City has officially approved the route alignment and infrastructure plan for the Ben Thanh–Can Gio metro line, a major transport project aimed at improving connectivity between the city center and Can Gio Ward.

According to the approved plan, the metro line will stretch approximately 53.8 kilometers, passing through central urban wards including Ben Thanh, Khanh Hoi, Xom Chieu, Tan Thuan, and Tan My, before extending through Nha Be, Binh Khanh, An Thoi Dong, and Can Gio.

The route will begin near Ben Thanh Market, heading southeast along Ky Con Street before crossing the Ben Nghe Canal and connecting to major transport corridors including Nguyen Tat Thanh and Nguyen Van Linh Boulevards, and Nguyen Luong Bang Street. It will then continue through Rung Sac Road, crossing several rivers before reaching its terminus near Duyen Hai Road in Can Gio.

Local authorities noted that the selected route passes through the buffer zone of the Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, avoiding the protected core area.

In the first phase, the project will include two stations—Ben Thanh and Can Gio—along with a depot and an Operations Control Center (OCC), both located in Can Gio.

The metro line carries a total investment of more than VND102.4 trillion ($3.89 billion), excluding approximately VND13 trillion in land clearance costs funded by the city budget.

Developed under a build-own-operate (BOO) model by Vinspeed, the project broke ground in December 2025. Land acquisition is expected to be completed by November 2026, with construction set to begin later that year and commercial operations targeted for 2028.
