Sustainable development is one of Signify’s key operational criteria, acting as a driving force for numerous technological advancements. Through the Flip to Green Switch Program, it aims to collaborate with partners, businesses, organizations, and individuals to execute sustainable lighting projects and create a practically impactful difference.

In particular, digitizing lighting infrastructure and transitioning from traditional lighting systems to energy-saving LED lighting technology is a simple yet effective solution for the greening movement in the lighting sector. Signify’s Interact-connected lighting system, based on LED technology, can reduce energy demand for city and building lighting by up to 80 per cent. However, that is just an omen for a greater movement.

Signify’s Interact-connected lighting system can build up an open digital platform to help users detect an object’s presence, monitor air quality, and share commands and sensor data with other digital services while providing IoT capabilities and other advanced functions to achieve climate goals wherever lighting is deployed.

There are five main pillars of Flip The Green Switch, the Renovation Wave as the main focus, to encourage the expansion of conventional lamp conversion to LED lamps, the Circular Economy, as a new way of thinking, Clean Energy and Clean Mobility, which increase energy efficiency while using renewable energy to achieve sustainability goals, and Digitalization, as an innovation in the digital ecosystem to reduce lighting energy consumption and help realize the potential for decarbonization.

Community activities are also of concern to Signify, in which it dedicates wholehearted effort. All employees at Signify Vietnam have joined the Green Summer Campaign with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Hue University, lighting up the border region of the central highlands.

The “Bringing green lighting to rural areas” project in Huong Nguyen commune in A Luoi district, Thua Thien-Hue province, has illuminated village roads and community meeting houses and upgraded lighting systems at kindergartens in Huong Nguyen, helping thousands of people and households have better living and study conditions.

Accompanying Vietnam’s innovative and sustainable development ecosystem

In 2023, a milestone was marked when Signify signed a cooperation agreement with the National Innovation Center (NIC) in Hanoi. This aims to raise awareness about the potential of lighting towards reaching net-zero goals, promoting digital transformation in public lighting and supporting innovative agriculture in high-tech, smart cities, and smart factories.

Through this collaborative relationship, Signify commits to connecting the NIC with international partners and supporting pilot projects to improve energy efficiency. In particular, Signify has brought its Interact City smart city lighting solution to the exhibition at the technology experience zone of Innovative City for the next two years. Here, breakthroughs in urban lighting solutions and technologies will be introduced and continuously updated by Signify.

Last year, the Signify Innovation Day 2023 was also held with the participation of the Dutch Business Association in Vietnam (DBAV) and leading Dutch businesses committed to supporting Vietnam in achieving its goals and fulfilling the Prime Minister’s requirements for energy savings.

In recognition of Signify’s efforts in providing energy-efficient lighting solutions, in 2023 the Ministry of Industry and Trade awarded the Highest Energy Efficiency Product to two Signify LED Master products: Master LEDtube UE and Diamond Cut recessed lighting.

These are among the outstanding products with high efficiency, creating a difference in lighting efficiency with the ability to convert from electricity to luminous energy reaching up to 210lm/W. This is the second time Signify has received this award.

In 2024 it was honored by the Organizing Committee of the Golden Dragon Awards as “Top 50 outstanding foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam for the period 2023-2024” for the third consecutive year. “This achievement is evidence of our commitment to developing and applying green digital solutions in lighting in Vietnam,” said Signify Vietnam’s General Director, Mr. Phung Hoai Duong. “We are not only committed to providing advanced products and services, but also to the mission of improving quality of life and protecting the environment through smart and sustainable lighting technology.”

The Golden Dragon Awards is one of the most prestigious programs in Vietnam, held since 2001 to recognize foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs) under criteria set by the Evaluation Council and Organizing Committee along with voting by readers.

Together with other businesses, Signify was honored for its effective activities, pioneering innovation, leading new trends, and making significant contributions to the socio-economic development achievements of the local and national economies.

On the world stage, the power of Signify’s commitment to sustainability is continually recognized, as it has been included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for seven consecutive years since its listing on the stock exchange (IOP), and belongs to the Top 1 per cent, with a Platinum EcoVadis rating for four consecutive years. Previously, in 2020, Signify achieved the EcoVadis Gold medal; the highest level.
