Vietnam’s aviation authority has raised slot capacity at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to meet surging travel demand during the upcoming Reunification Day (April 30)-May Day (May 1) holiday peak.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam announced that take-off and landing frequency will increase from 44 to 46 flights per hour during daytime operations, effective from April 25 to May 5, 2026.
The adjustment follows a review of operational capacity and aims to optimize peak-hour scheduling while prioritizing key routes.
CAAV Director Uong Viet Dung said the move is intended to ensure flexible and efficient operations, reduce flight delays, and accommodate rising passenger demand.
Airlines have also ramped up capacity. Vietnam Airlines Group plans to offer nearly 1.12 million seats on domestic and international routes, up 15.5% year-on-year. Capacity on key routes linking Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang will increase by nearly 30%, while the Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City corridor will see a 12% rise. Tourist destinations such as Nha Trang and Phu Quoc will also see flight increases of about 20%.
Meanwhile, the budget carrier Vietjet Air plans to add around 500 flights, boosting seat capacity by 18% to roughly 832,000 seats. The combined measures are expected to ease pressure on the aviation system and ensure smoother operations during the holiday period.
