The airport is expected to meet ICAO 4C standards and handle around 3 million passengers per year.

The move is followed a comprehensive review of all 454 administrative procedures under its jurisdiction by the ministry in April.

The initiative aimed at reducing air pollution and accelerating the transition to green transport.

The figure is equal to other countries in Asia (Japan 99 per cent, South Korea 100 per cent, China 73.37 per cent, Malaysia 98.13 per cent, the Philippines 93.62 per cent and Thailand 88 per cent).

The projects will be developed through agreements on land-use rights transfers or on land already under legal use rights.

The event took place as part of the State visit to Sri Lanka by Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and President To Lam.
