Demand for skilled workers in the supporting industry is on the rise due to the development of science and technology, especially AI and automation, an official has said.

However, human resources with suitable skills and knowledge in industry in general and the supporting industry in particular remain quite limited, acting Director of the Industrial Development Center at the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Industry Department, Cao Van Binh, told a workshop on “Enhancing the quality of human resources in the supporting industry”.

This creates difficulties for businesses in recruiting employees, especially those with high levels of skills and knowledge about new technologies, he said.

“Additionally, businesses in the supporting industry have to compete with other industries, including hi-tech and manufacturing industries, in attracting and maintaining a workforce,” Mr. Binh said.

“The supporting industry also facilitates changes and improvements in production and technologies, forcing businesses to have workers who are able to learn and adapt to rapid changes. Thus, seeking and maintaining the workforce is a real challenge.”

Speaking at the workshop, Plant Director at the TOMECO An Khang Joint Stock Company Le Quy Thanh said a gap still exists between technologies applied by enterprises and the curriculum of training facilities in the supporting industry.

In addition to professional knowledge, workers must have a certain understanding of specialized requirements and even the operations of advanced machinery and devices.

“To narrow the gap between supply and demand, it is essential to have joint efforts from both sides - training facilities and businesses,” said Rector of the Hanoi University of Industry Kieu Xuan Thuc.
