A report on practicing thrift and combatting waste in the workplace in the 2016-2021 period from the National Assembly (NA) Supervision Delegation, which will be discussed at the ongoing NA session, noted that thousands of projects have violated regulations on investment procedures, causing losses and waste of nearly VND32 trillion ($1.3 billion). The report also identified other shortcomings causing waste in public investment, such as improper negotiations and contract signings, and inadequate project construction supervision, among others.
The Hanoi People’s Committee has assigned the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board (MRB), relevant departments, and sectors to study the building of Metro Line No. 6, linking Noi Bai International Airport with Ngoc Hoi, on National Highway No. 1 in Thanh Tri district. Under the Hanoi Capital Construction General Planning to 2030 and vision to 2050, approved in Decision No. 1259/QD-TTg dated July 26, 2011, the urban railway network consists of eight lines with a total length of about 318 km.
Despite posting slowing growth since before the pandemic, Vietnam’s construction sector is still a bright spot in the Asia-Pacific region and is forecast to grow by more than 8.71 per cent during the 2022-2027 period. FDI inflows continue to come and the government’s support policies have helped enterprises in the construction sector to recover.
The Vietnam Steel Association (VSA) has reported that steel production and consumption in the first nine months of this year continued to decline, by 5.8 per cent and 1.6 per cent, respectively, over the same period of 2021. The steel sector is forecast to recover in the fourth quarter of this year, which is when steel demand usually increases as construction projects pick up the pace.
Infrastructure construction at the Song Cong II Industrial Park in northern Thai Nguyen province’s Song Cong city, on 250 ha and with total investment of over VND1.7 trillion ($71.5 million), is a key project in the locality. The province has proposed increasing investment by nearly VND600 billion ($25.2 million), while also delaying implementation to 2023. Thai Nguyen has only six industrial parks on a total area of 1,420 ha.
Construction of the second component project, “Flight management works”, at Long Thanh International Airport, with total investment of nearly VND3.5 trillion ($146 million), began sooner than expected on September 29. Main items are the Air Traffic Control Tower and auxiliary works, which are expected to be put into operation in 2025.
The Ministry of Construction is formulating national urban and rural area planning for the 2022-2030 period and vision to 2050, to build and develop a harmonious and balanced urban network between regions, urban areas, and the countryside. The development of high-rise buildings will be strictly controlled in inner cities, with the concentration of hospitals and universities in central urban areas reduced and industrial facilities outside of urban areas relocated.
Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh has signed Decision No. 1119/QD-TTg approving the investment policy on construction and infrastructure business at the Dong Soc Industrial Park in northern Vinh Phuc province, with the Vinh Phuc Trading Investment Company being the project investor. The project sits on 206,560 ha straddling Van Xuan commune, Vu Di commune, and Tu Trung town in Vinh Tuong district. Total investment is VND2.238 trillion ($94.85 million), including VND335.718 billion ($14.21 million) contributed by the investor and VND1.902 trillion ($80.64 million) mobilized from other sources.
