The EY Vietnam Consulting Joint Stock Company (EY Consulting Vietnam) and the CFO Club of Vietnam (CFO Vietnam) co-organized an event on October 14 on tax, laws, and customs, with the theme “Overcoming Challenges to Growth”. EY Consulting Vietnam said businesses are facing difficulties in implementing certain tax regulations, especially those related to foreign contractor taxes and corporate income taxes. Recognizing the problems, the government has recently issued a tax reform strategy to 2030.

The Minister of Information and Communications has issued an action plan to implement the National Cybersecurity and Safety Strategy, proactively responding to challenges from cyberspace to 2025 with a vision for 2030. Approved by the Prime Minister in mid-August, the strategy aims to make Vietnam a powerhouse in cyberinformation security.

During his working visit to the US, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh gave a speech at Harvard University on May 14 regarding Vietnam’s future orientations and strategies. Vietnam, he told the gathering, will adhere to a policy of innovation, openness, proactiveness, and active international integration. It will focus on implementing three strategic breakthroughs in terms of institutions, human resources, and infrastructure networks.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) announced on February 17 a new strategy for sustainable agriculture and rural development, containing a number of breakthroughs and ambitious goals, such as agricultural growth of 2.5-3 per cent per year, agricultural labor productivity rising 5.5-6 per cent per year, markets expanding and developing, especially export markets, and the export value of agricultural, fisheries, and forestry products growing 5-6 per cent each year, among others.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) has submitted a report to the government on the development strategy for Vietnam’s chemical industry to 2030 and vision to 2040. By 2040, the industry will have a greater role in the global value chain.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has said that the government is determined to step up all measures to loosen mechanisms, free up resources, and create new drivers to promote economic growth.

Vietnam possesses advantages in hydrogen production from renewable energy sources such as offshore wind, so needs a strategy to stay abreast of the hydrogen industry.

From both the health and economic perspectives, a new approach and a suitable long-term strategy is needed to more effectively tackle Covid-19 and ensure the maintenance of business operations for socio-economic development.
