The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) recently held a meeting with a delegation from the Japan Transport and Tourism Research Institute (JTTRI) to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in tourism research and experience sharing.
During the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh, Chairman of VNAT, highlighted that Vietnam's tourism sector, like the global industry, is entering a rapid development phase.
In the first ten months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed 17.2 million international visitors, marking a 21.5% increase from the same period in 2024, and served 125 million domestic tourists.
Vietnam received 590,000 Japanese visitors in 2023, over 712,000 in 2024, a 21% increase, and 679,000 in the first ten months of 2025, a nearly 9% rise. Conversely, the number of Vietnamese tourists visiting Japan has steadily increased, with 574,000 in 2023, 621,000 in 2024, and 530,000 in the first nine months of 2025.
To boost bilateral tourist exchanges, Mr. Khanh proposed that Japan consider visa exemptions for Vietnamese tourists traveling in groups, thereby further encouraging Vietnamese visits to Japan.
Mr. Masafumi Shukuri, Chairman of JTTRI, affirmed JTTRI's desire to continue close cooperation with the VNAT in research and experience sharing.
JTTRI and the Vietnam Institute of Culture, Arts, Sports, and Tourism co-hosted a seminar titled "Creative Tourism for Sustainable Destination Development" and signed a cooperation agreement to further promote tourism development relations between the two sides in the future.
