During their meeting in Hanoi on October 20, Mr. Nguyen Tuong Van, Vietnam's Deputy Minister of Construction and Mr. Lee Sang Kyeong, South Korea's Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, reached agreement on further strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two sides.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van affirmed that the traditional partnership between Vietnam and South Korea has been continuously consolidated and expanded across various sectors, thereby deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.
He highly appreciated the close cooperation between the two ministries, particularly the effective implementation of South Korea’s ODA-funded technical assistance projects, such as South Korea's Green City Planning Project in Vietnam, the Vietnam – Korea cooperation centre for smart city and construction technology (VKC), etc.
The VKC project has been seen as a highlight of the bilateral cooperation, thus contributing to capacity building, training programs, and pilot models for smart cities in Vietnam.
Mr. Lee Sang Kyeong, for his part, highly appreciated the fruitful outcomes of cooperation between the two countries, noting that the recent state visit to South Korea by Party General Secretary To Lam has opened a new chapter for the bilateral relations.
He shared that South Korea is currently piloting several AI-based smart city technologies in new urban areas and is willing to share its experiences with Vietnam.
He also noted that Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is developing a new urban area in Bac Ninh Province and collaborating with Hung Yen Province to identify potential sites for a clean industrial park, both seen as key projects for sustainable urban development in northern Vietnam.
In the field of infrastructure, Mr. Lee expressed South Korea’s desire to expand cooperation in railway and aviation, particularly as Vietnam prepares to develop major national projects such as the North–South high-speed railway and Gia Binh International Airport.
South Korea also proposed to host the Korea–Vietnam Railway Cooperation Conference in Seoul in 2026 to further detail future collaboration, and pledged to actively support the operation consulting project for Vietnam's Long Thanh International Airport, led by Incheon International Airport Corporation.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Tuong Van welcomed these proposals, affirming that the Ministry of Construction always encourages and supports international investors, especially reputable South Korean enterprises with advanced technologies to participate in urban development, railway, and aviation projects in Vietnam.
Both sides also agreed to further accelerate delegation exchanges, information sharing, and experience exchange in policy-making and state management related to urban planning, housing, construction, and transportation, thereby promoting more comprehensive and effective cooperation between the two sides in the coming years.
