Vietnam, Indonesia target $18 bln in bilateral trade

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto pledged to strive to soon achieve the goal of $18 billion in bilateral trade turnover during their meeting in Hanoi on September 14.

President-elect Subianto is paying a working visit to Vietnam from September 13-14, at the invitation of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam.

At the meeting, the two leaders agreed to coordinate to tackle difficulties, reduce trade barriers and facilitate the implementation of trade promotion activities and market access for each other's goods, including agricultural and Halal products.  

They stressed the need to encourage and facilitate investments by businesses of the two countries, particularly in new areas such as digital economy, green economy, energy transition, and the development of electric vehicle ecosystems

They agreed to boost cooperation in other important areas, including maritime and fisheries cooperation; and establishment of a digital partnership, including cross-border e-commerce and digital transformation.

PM Chinh suggested Indonesia facilitate the access of Vietnamese agricultural products and Halal goods to its market, and support Vietnam in removing the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
