Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives Gerry Brownlee have agreed to draft an economic connectivity strategy, accelerate the signing of trade and investment agreements, and ease market access for agricultural products from both countries, with the goal of raising two-way trade to $3 billion by 2026.
At their meeting in Hanoi on August 28, on the occasion of the latter's official visit to Vietnam, the two sides also pledged to expand cooperation in emerging sectors such as green and digital economies, digital transformation, science and technology, innovation, and climate change response.
Education and training collaboration, along with student and researcher exchanges, will be strengthened. They also considered establishing a direct air route to boost tourism, trade, and people-to-people ties.
Both leaders reaffirmed the importance of high-level visits and exchanges, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation mechanisms, to advance political and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and New Zealand.
