At the FIATA World Congress 2025 (FWC 2025), Vietnam SuperPort™ - a joint venture between Singapore’s YCH Group and Vietnam’s T&T Group - introduced its Off-Airport Cargo Terminal (OACT), a key component of its multimodal logistics hub in Phu Tho Province. The launch marks a significant step in enhancing Vietnam’s air logistics connectivity and strengthening its position on the global supply chain map.

During FWC 2025, the Vietnam SuperPort™ exhibition booth welcomed Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, FIATA President Mr. Turgut Erkeskin, senior officials from central ministries and local authorities, as well as representatives from leading global logistics and freight forwarding associations and enterprises.

Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™, presented the operational plans for the Off-Airport Cargo Terminal - a strategic link in the multimodal supply chain that is set to be officially launched soon.

The region’s largest integrated off-airport cargo terminal

Strategically located along the Northern Economic Corridor, the OACT connects over 20 industrial parks with key seaports and airports such as Noi Bai, Hai Phong, and Quang Ninh, and extends to Yunnan and Kunming (China). This positioning enables smoother trade flows between Vietnam and the China-ASEAN region, while linking directly to networks of international airlines and major markets in the US, Europe, and Asia.

As one of Vietnam’s pioneering off-airport cargo terminals, the OACT is fully equipped to function as an “extended air cargo terminal,” offering services such as customs clearance, security screening, storage, ULD (Unit Load Device) handling, and transport to airports. All cargo is managed under stringent security protocols, monitored 24/7 by CCTV systems, with oversight from aviation security and customs authorities throughout the process - from receipt to aircraft loading.

Covering more than 11,000 sq m with an annual handling capacity of around 50,000 tons, the OACT is built to international standards and designed to process large volumes of cargo for multiple businesses and carriers, including those serving demanding markets like the US and Europe.

According to Dr. Yap Kwong Weng, the OACT is a key component of the Vietnam SuperPort™ Multimodal Logistics Center, developed under a “Park within a Park” model that integrates rail, road, sea, and air transport within one hub. This design allows businesses to seamlessly switch between transport modes to meet specific needs while optimizing transit time and logistics costs.

Smart, sustainable, and technology-driven

Beyond its connectivity advantages, Vietnam SuperPort™ revealed plans to transform the OACT into a modern, intelligent cargo terminal powered by advanced technologies such as AI and robotics. The company has partnered with Google and Kyndryl to research and develop next-generation AI systems for security screening and automated document verification, enhancing safety and efficiency.

With support from Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Vietnam SuperPort™ is also developing Autonomous Guided Vehicles (AGVs), robotic loaders, and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to automate warehouse operations - aiming to boost productivity by up to 35% while cutting error rates by 50%.

Strengthening connectivity and resilience

In the long term, the OACT aims to achieve full digitalization, creating an integrated logistics platform that allows businesses to track, manage, and book services online - from customs declarations and security control to electronic payments. This represents a crucial step toward a fully digitalized air cargo supply chain, connecting Vietnam with smart logistics networks across ASEAN and the global market.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Robert Yap, Executive Chairman of YCH Group, stated: “Vietnam SuperPort™ embodies the shared vision of YCH Group and T&T Group to build a smarter, greener, and more connected supply chain for the region. The OACT is not merely a logistics facility, it is a catalyst that reinforces Vietnam’s role as a dynamic hub for trade and innovation across ASEAN and beyond.”

Guided by the development principles of “Connectivity - Smart - Sustainability,” the OACT not only facilitates cargo storage and processing but also serves as a strategic bridge, enhancing Vietnam’s integration capabilities, optimizing logistics costs, and expanding international trade opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises.

The OACT model is expected to deliver major competitive advantages for import-export businesses and the broader air cargo ecosystem - improving service quality, reducing congestion at airport cargo terminals, streamlining operations, and enabling smoother cargo movement and flight scheduling.

“OACT is not just an Off-Airport Cargo Terminal; it is a symbol of Vietnam’s vision for smart and sustainable connectivity. We aim to build a next-generation logistics hub where technology, infrastructure, and people come together to drive new momentum for global trade,” emphasized the CEO of Vietnam SuperPort™.

Earlier, at the Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2025 (VIIE 2025), Vietnam SuperPort™ showcased a range of advanced technological solutions to improve logistics efficiency and reinforce Vietnam’s role as a strategic link in the global supply chain.

The ongoing preparation for the OACT’s official launch underscores Vietnam SuperPort™’s long-term strategy to digitalize logistics, building an intelligent, efficient, and sustainable connected ecosystem for Vietnam and the wider region.
