The government has recently issued Resolution No. 90/NQ-CP on the purchase of additional doses of Pfizer’s BNT162 vaccine, agreeing to apply the form of contractor selection in special cases specified in Article No. 26 of the Bidding Law for the additional purchase of 19,988,810 doses of Pfizer’s BNT162 vaccine.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) is responsible for the contents of Report No. 341/TTr-BYT and will organize the purchase as soon as possible, to meet the requirements of pandemic prevention and control while ensuring the quality and efficiency of vaccines.

Previously, on June 19, the government also agreed to follow the provisions of Article No. 26 of the Bidding Law for the purchase of AZD1222 vaccines produced by AstraZeneca. It agreed to buy 30 million doses of AZD1222 vaccine that the Vietnam Vaccine JSC (VNVC) had bought from AstraZeneca.

According to Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, while the number of vaccines will be low in the third quarter this will increase sharply in the fourth quarter. This includes about 47-50 million doses of Pfizer’s vaccine.

At the government’s regular press conference on August 11, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan said that Vietnam has received a total of more than 18 million doses of vaccine, of which more than 11 million have been used. Vietnam has licensed the use of vaccines from companies including AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna, Sputnik-V, and Sinopharm.
