The CPI increased just 1.84 per cent year-on-year in 2021; its lowest rise since 2016. Core inflation for the year increased 0.81 per cent.

GDP growth reached only 2.58 per cent in 2021, with the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector and the industry and construction sector being pillars of the economy, growing 2.9 per cent and 4.05 per cent, respectively. Medical and social aid, banking, finance and insurance, and information and communication also saw relatively good growth.

Digital transformation in the agriculture sector, which focuses on developing smart agriculture and applying digital technology to automate production and business, will help tens of millions of farming households in Vietnam access knowledge and new ways of thinking and be in line with development trends in the country as a whole.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has assigned the Ministry of Health to prepare an appropriate plan to ensure sufficient booster shots are available to prevent any further spread of Covid-19. Ho Chi Minh City will complete its additional Covid-19 shots before the Lunar New Year holiday in early February.

The national housing development strategy for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2045 has been approved by Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, with a target of per capita housing reaching 27 sq m by 2025. The strategy also proposes many solutions for housing development, in capital, taxes, administrative reform, and investment procedures.

The State budget deficit will increase in 2022 because there will be new projects within the economic recovery package, creating a heavy task for the State Treasury in raising capital. It will need to actively develop an implementation plan from the very beginning of the year.
