Short-term solutions to ensure economic recovery must be in line with long-term solutions associated with macroeconomic stability and sustainable development. Policies should not be introduced that may help the economy recover in the short term but cause macroeconomic instability in the long term, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue has said.

At a meeting with State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 28 in Switzerland, WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweal emphasized that Vietnam has made many improvements since 2007, when the country joined the body, in GDP growth and poverty reduction, and in being in the top 20 largest exporting countries in the world. This is a miracle, she said, and Vietnam is an example for many developing countries to follow.

State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc told the Vietnam - Switzerland Business Forum that Swiss enterprises doing business in Vietnam will have many opportunities in the future. It is expected that at least CHF70 million ($75.66 million) will be invested in economic development projects in Vietnam in the 2021-2024 period.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) has proposed that the government order the temporary suspension of entry permits for passengers to and from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Eswatini, Lesotho, and Mozambique, to prevent the Omicron variant of Covid-19 from coming into the country.

Vietnam received an additional 1.4 million doses of Pfizer vaccine from France on November 27 and 28, bringing the country’s total donation to over 2 million doses.

At a meeting on November 27, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam will attempt to produce vaccines and therapeutic drugs domestically, to actively prevent and control the pandemic, save budget funds, and demonstrate the intelligence and creativity of the Vietnamese people. Research, technology transfer, and clinical trials have been conducted in Vietnam on six nominated Covid-19 vaccines. A number of specific treatment drugs, traditional drugs, herbal medicines, and similar offerings are also being researched.
