Vietnam’s automotive market rebounded strongly in September 2026, with total sales reported by the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) reaching 35,094 vehicles, up 38% from August and 14% year-on-year.

In the first nine months of 2026, total market sales reached 282,029 vehicles, a 12% increase from the same period last year. VAMA member companies accounted for 220,107 units, up 7% year-on-year.

The September recovery followed a seasonal slowdown in August, traditionally associated with the seventh lunar month, when some Vietnamese consumers postpone major purchases. Sales rose across all vehicle categories during the month.

Passenger cars accounted for 24,655 units, while commercial vehicles contributed 9,807 and special-purpose vehicles totalled 632. Passenger-car sales jumped 47% from August, commercial vehicles increased 19%, and special-purpose vehicles rose 58%.

Among VAMA members alone, September sales reached 26,209 vehicles, up 39% from the previous month.

Hybrid vehicles were another bright spot. VAMA members sold 2,168 hybrids in September, an increase of 56% from August and 58% compared with September 2025.

Cumulative hybrid sales among VAMA members reached 16,057 units in the first nine months of 2026, up 64% from 9,785 units in the corresponding period last year.
