Originating from new rules in global trade and investment established at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and the commitment of the Vietnamese Government to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, the Viglacera Corporation has set its sights on developing industrial parks (IPs) under green and smart models. This entails attracting investments in high-tech and environmentally-friendly supporting industries and creating high value-added.
In early spring 2024, Viglacera officially announced the Thuan Thanh Eco-Smart IP project in Thuan Thanh town in northern Bac Ninh province. The IP covers an area of 250 ha near Ring Road No. 4 and is expected to be completed by 2026. Once Ring Road No. 4 opens to traffic, the IP will be readily connected to Hanoi (20 minutes by road), Noi Bai International Airport (40 minutes), and Hai Phong Port (1 hour and 15 minutes).
Following the announcement of the Thuan Thanh Eco-Smart IP, Viglacera’s leadership officially established standards for its subsequent IP projects to strictly adhere to green and smart goals. Core objectives have been incorporated into action plans, such as maximizing resource efficiency, reducing fuel consumption, minimizing water usage, and mitigating environmental pollution.
With its existing IPs, there will be gradual investments made in conversions and upgrades to achieve the highest level of “greening”. This transformation serves as evidence of Viglacera’s vision and responsibility towards the community.
Green projects have commenced within Viglacera’s IPs as a result. Specifically, Hitachi Energy, a leading industrial technology conglomerate, opened a $50 million transformer factory at the Tien Son IP in northern Bac Ninh province in December. The factory has secured LEED Gold certification, demonstrating Hitachi Energy’s commitment to minimizing environmental impacts.
Frasers Property Vietnam (FPV) also chose Viglacera’s IPs as the destination for a series of new-generation factory projects. FPV is the first company in Vietnam to be recognized by the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for setting greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. According to Mr. Truong An Duong, Director of FPV’s Northern Vietnam branch, FPV has outlined a net-zero roadmap by 2050, specifically aiming to certify all development projects as meeting 100 per cent green standards.
In line with this approach, FPV commenced the Yen Phong 2C IP project in Bac Ninh province, with 34,500 sq m of ready-built factories and high-quality warehouse facilities, emphasizing the creation of a healthy and sustainable working environment.
In March, FPV officially commenced two more projects: Industrial Centre Dong Mai in northern Quang Ninh province with 71,000 sq m of premium ready-built factories and warehouses, and Industrial Centre Yen My in northern Hung Yen province, comprising 159,000 sq m of multifunctional industrial facilities and significant green areas with four entertainment parks.
All projects are designed to meet LEED certification requirements, which are internationally-recognized standards focusing on energy efficiency and environmental protection, and are acknowledged as the most comprehensive green standards for living spaces. The breaking-ground ceremony at the Industrial Centre Dong Mai was honored by the presence of H.E. Kees van Barr, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Vietnam, marking the beginning of the first facility of the High-Tech Semiconductor Technology Group VDL B.V in Vietnam.
The presence of LEED-certified projects at Viglacera IPs reaffirms that its green and smart development direction is being gradually realized. Its IPs have, are, and will continue to be the destination for high-tech, modern, and environmentally-friendly businesses.
