VINAFIS has signed a cooperation agreement with USSEC.

The Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) has signed a cooperation agreement with the US Soybean Export Council (USSEC).

Dr. Dominique P Bureau, an aquaculture nutrition expert at USSEC noted that soybeans account for a large proportion of raw materials used in aquafeed production.

In the overall context of the Vietnam – US seafood supply chain, soybeans and soy products are the largest 'reverse' exports in terms of volume and value. This is seen as an effective 'deduction' point for reciprocal tariffs on Vietnamese seafood, he suggested.

Accordingly, facing pressure to ensure supply chain transparency and sustainable development, Vietnam's fisheries sector is gradually shifting towards using environmentally friendly ingredients. In this context, US soy is emerging as a strategic solution, helping to reduce reliance on fishmeal, optimize costs, and reduce emissions.

According to the agreement, the two sides will engage in extensive domestic and international cooperation, working towards long-term objectives:

First, to promote sustainable aquaculture and fishing activities in Vietnam through technical training, knowledge exchange, and sharing of industry information.

Second, to support the adoption of international sustainability certifications, including initiatives consistent with the U.S. Soy Sustainability Assurance Protocol (SSAP).

Third, to encourage the use of U.S. soy ingredients in aquafeed where possible, to enhance feed quality, environmental responsibility, and the industry's competitiveness.

Fourth, to expand cooperation in research, community outreach, and market access in the aquaculture and fisheries sectors.

Fifth, to jointly organize or support industry events, conferences, and workshops to promote mutual interests and strengthen long-term cooperation.

Sixth, to collaborate at the VinaFIS Expo 2026 International Exhibition to elevate Vietnamese seafood.

To this end, the two sides will jointly organize an International Conference on Aquaculture Nutrition at VinaFIS Expo 2026. The U.S. Soybean Export Council will mobilize the participation of leading global experts in nutrition from USSEC's system to ensure the workshop is truly "impactful" and "valuable" for the farming community, businesses, and research units in Vietnam and countries in the region.
