VinFast has announced plans to build an electric vehicle (EV) factory in North Carolina.

The breaking ground ceremony will take place on July 28, marking the first EV manufacturing plant in the US state. Its opening will contribute to the supply of EVs in North America and accelerate the worldwide green mobility revolution.

The Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County, North Carolina, has been chosen as the location for the VinFast factory. Spanning approximately 1,800 acres, the factory will have a production capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year in its initial phase. It will consist of two primary sections - EV production and assembly - and the complex will also house supplementary supplier businesses.

The project has obtained the necessary permits to commence Phase 1 of construction. Once operational, the factory will create a supplier ecosystem and generate thousands of jobs. Production is expected to begin in 2025. VinFast received a $1.2 billion incentive package from North Carolina last year, along with significant financial support from the City of Sanford, Chatham County, and the Golden Leaf Foundation.

In addition to the factory, VinFast is actively expanding its showroom and service center network, offering test drives and hosting product display events throughout California. These endeavors aim to enhance the company’s business and brand recognition in the US, offering customers a direct experience with its EVs.
