Overseas shipment of aquaculture totaled over $1 billion in October, up 28% against the same period last year, the Government News on November 4 quoted the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) as reporting.
The above figure raised the total value of aquatic exports to $8.27 billion in the first ten months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%.
This is the first time after 27 months (since June 2022), aquaculture sector’s monthly export turnover surpassed $1 billion.
Especially, exports to China skyrocketed by 37%t year-on-year, making China the top importer of aquatic products from Vietnam.
Meanwhile, other markets recorded vibrant growth rates, including the U.S. (31%), the EU (27%), Japan (22%), and South Korea (13%).
The U.S. Department of Commerce recently announced preliminary countervailing duties on shrimp imported from Ecuador, India, and Vietnam. Accordingly, duty rates for Vietnamese shrimp stood at 2.84%, significantly lower than the 4.36% for India and 7.55% for Ecuador.
Earlier, VASEP expects seafood exports in the second half of the year to increase by 15% to over $5.5 billion, bringing total seafood export value for the year to nearly $10 billion, up 12% from 2023.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development however lowered its target for seafood export value for 2024 to $9.5 billion
