Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has earmarked the logistics industry as one of its four main economic pillars, with the goal of becoming a marine economic hub, a maritime service center in Southeast Asia, and a major logistics hub for the Southeast region by 2025.
According to the Planning for the Development of Vietnam's Seaport System to 2030, with a vision to 2050, Ba Ria - Vung Tau is poised to become Vietnam's gateway port and its largest international transshipment port.
The locality is determined to soon establish the Cai Mep Ha free trade zone, aiming to connect with Long Thanh International Airport in the neibouring province of Dong Nai and the Cai Mep - Thi Vai seaport.
This strategic initiative aims to attract investment, particularly in the logistics and port sectors, fostering sustainable economic development, as highlighted by Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee.
To realize these ambitious goals, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province must overcome challenges related to infrastructure, human resources, and the promotion of digital transformation.
The development of large logistics centers will require substantial investment from both the public and private sectors, along with close coordination among functional agencies to ensure synchronized and efficient development.
The locality has made significant strides in the port and logistics industry, with impressive results in 2024. Specifically, the total cargo throughput at the province's ports exceeded 138.2 million tons, surpassing the planned target by 23%. Cargo throughput in twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) reached 10.8 million TEUs, reflecting a 34% increase compared to the same period last year.
