Northern Bac Ninh province has topped the country in the proportion of the digital economy in its GRDP, reaching 56.83 per cent, according to an annual report on Vietnam’s 2022 digital economy.
The report was released by the Department of Digital Economy and Society at the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC).
Bac Ninh was followed by neighboring Thai Nguyen province with 42.92 per cent, neighboring Bac Giang province with 42.13 per cent, and the northern port city of Hai Phong with 29.48 per cent.
Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi were ranked sixth and seventh, with 18.66 per cent and 17.15 per cent, respectively.
The digital economy in 17 of Vietnam’s 63 cities and provinces makes up over 10 per cent of their GRDP, according to the report.
Director of the Department of Digital Economy and Society Tran Minh Tuan said the digital economy accounted for 11.91 per cent of Vietnam’s GDP in 2021 and then 14.26 per cent in 2022.
Vietnam has set a target of having its digital economy account for 25 per cent of national GDP by 2025 and 30 per cent by 2030.
