The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction, requesting appraisal and approval for the planning task of Noi Bai International Airport for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the proposal, the planned research scope is expected to cover an area of approximately 1,500 ha, including the airport's surrounding vicinity.

The planning task is built on the principle of maximizing the operational efficiency of existing infrastructure, meeting future air transport demands, while ensuring synchronous connectivity with other modes of transport and close alignment with national defense, security, and operational safety requirements.

The CAAV stated that the Noi Bai International Airport master plan will arrange development space rationally, in line with the national airport system development orientation for the period 2021–2030, with a vision to 2050. Concurrently, it will propose an appropriate investment roadmap for each development phase.

The planning task will fully comply with legal regulations on planning and civil aviation, as well as national standards and recommendations from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The main contents of the task include: conducting surveys, investigations, and data collection for planning; updating the current situation and ongoing projects at Noi Bai International Airport; and forecasting air transport demand for the upcoming periods.
