Construction of the passenger Terminal 2 and the cargo terminal at Cat Bi Airport in the northern port city of Hai Phong has been delayed and is expected to be begin in 2024 instead of the fourth quarter of this year, as originally scheduled, according to the Hai Phong City People’s Committee.
The delay was attributed to difficulties and obstacles relating to site clearance.
The two terminals have total investment of over VND3.13 trillion ($130 million), from Airports Corporation of Vietnam.
Construction of the cargo terminal was approved by the city’s People’s Committee in October, 2021, with initial investment capital of over VND301 billion ($12.5 million).
In July, 2023, city authorities decided to adjust the investment capital of the project to nearly VND725 billion ($30.2 million).
The terminal is expected to handle over 100,000 tons of cargo a year.
Meanwhile, the passenger terminal will be built with a capacity of catering to about 5 million passengers annually. It was approved in July, 2022, by the Prime Minister, with estimated investment capital of over VND2.4 trillion ($100 million).
