Though the number of customers using Mobile Money services has reached nearly 2 million, a 440 per cent increase since the end of 2021, growth has slowed in recent months. The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) is striving for monthly growth to hit 20 per cent, for 3.5 million customers using Mobile Money services by the end of this year.

According to the Ministry of Information and Communications, as of August 19, the SMEdx Program, which supports small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with digital transformation, had about 379,865 such enterprises accessing and experiencing “Make in Vietnam” digital platforms.

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen has issued a Directive on promoting digital transformation and building the southern metropolis into a smart city. The directive states that the three pillars of the digital transformation program are digital government, the digital economy, and the digital society. The digital economy is to contribute 25 per cent of the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) by 2025.

Vietnamese startups raised a total of $1.5 billion in investment last year, according to Nextrans Vietnam. Fintech (financial technology) led the way in venture capital (VC) funding, accounting for 26.6 per cent of the total, revealing the confidence shown in its prospects. There were seven leading fintech startups named by Fintechnews: VNLife, M_Service, Sky Mavis, Trusting Social, Timo, Finhay, and Nano Technologies.

On August 25 in Finland, the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and the Nokia Corporation signed a cooperation agreement on private wireless networks (Private Wireless - LTE/5G) and solutions for smart ports and smart airports.

The CEO of the Mobile World Joint Stock Company (MWG) Doan Van Hieu Em told VnEconomy that he is supremely confident that Vietnam will be recognized by Apple as a tier 1 market after looking at the steps Apple has taken in recent times. This doesn’t stop at the relocation of production lines from abroad to Vietnam and investment expansions in the country, but also appears in the number of financial statements made by Apple CEO Tim Cook.
