Schneider Electric, which specializes in the digitization of energy management and automation programs, has appointed Ms. Tran Mai Huong as the new Director of the Vietnam Schneider Electric Co., LTD. She will be in charge of managing and implementing all Schneider Electric activities in Vietnam and Cambodia.

The Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and LinkSME (Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises - a project sponsored by the US Agency for International Development) announced on July 22 a support package for building a digital transformation roadmap for enterprises. A hundred enterprises will be chosen to receive support and become success stories for others to follow.

The Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) established the Digital Marketing and Technology Association (DTM) on July 22, to help Vietnamese businesses enter the 4.0 era and overcome the pandemic. Many activities on DTM Day (a talk show held by the DTM on July 28), will help businesses access effective marketing and technology solutions. It will also allow solutions providers and agencies to promote products and services and find talent.

The volume of orders placed on e-commerce platforms has increased significantly in Vietnam since social distancing and quarantining were introduced. Tiki has sold 10 tons of vegetables and taken 10,000 orders for essential products each day. Demand for essential products on Shopee reached 30 tons a day. Average consumption of vegetables and processed food on Lazada was 5-10 tons a day. Voso and Postmart, with advantages in logistics, offered both online and offline price stabilization sales and ensured delivery to many areas.

The Association for Information Systems (AIS) has established a Vietnam branch (VAIS) in order to boost the digitalization of the country’s economy by promoting cooperation in researching, teaching, and applying information systems. One of the main missions of VAIS is connecting associations and enterprises with academia through practical research on information systems and technology management systems. VAIS will also boost cooperation in management information systems (MIS) between Vietnamese and foreign universities.

While many economic sectors continue to face a raft of difficulties from Covid-19, Vietnam’s e-commerce sector has recorded impressive revenue growth. According to the E-commerce White Book 2021, B2C e-commerce revenue has risen sharply over the last five years, reaching $11.8 billion in 2020, an increase of 18 per cent compared to 2019. The sector is forecast to post revenue of $29 billion in 2025, up 34 per cent against 2020. Vietnam has recorded strong growth in both the percentage of people using the internet and the number of consumers shopping online in recent years, as well as in the value of online shopping.
