At the 8th US-Vietnam Business Summit held on November 12 in Hanoi by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the U.S., opening a meaningful journey from "confrontation to partnership, from suspicion to trust, from a painful past to comprehensive cooperation in the present and prosperous development in the future."
Currently, the U.S. is Vietnam's second-largest trading partner, with bilateral trade exceeding $100 billion.
In the context of Vietnam continuing to be a safe, stable, and attractive destination for international investors, the Deputy Prime Minister called on the U.S. business community to further expand investment and accompany Vietnam in key areas, including semiconductors, green energy, logistics, innovation, and high-quality human resource training.
At the same time, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed five key areas that U.S. businesses should to focus on to continue enhancing their role in Vietnam's economic development and promoting bilateral relations between the two countries.
"With a foundation of thirty years of collaboration and increasing political trust, the companionship of the business communities of both countries, Vietnam and the U.S. will continue to advance to a new, more brilliant chapter for comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and prosperous development of the two nations and the world," the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed.
From the U.S. side, Mr. Michael G. DeSombre, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, expressed confidence that Vietnam has great potential in attracting foreign direct investment, and U.S. businesses are ready to maintain their leading role as investors and strategic partners of Vietnam.
According to him, Vietnam plays a strategically important role in ensuring global economic security and sustainable supply chains through diversification and cooperation.
Similarly, Mr. Michael Nguyen, Chairman of AmCham, stated that Vietnam is currently one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and U.S. businesses highly appreciate the ambitious institutional and economic structural reform program of the Vietnamese government.
