EVN reports that it has restored power to 98 per cent of its clients affected by Typhoon Yagi.

As of the morning of September 16, 1,626 out of 1,678 medium-voltage lines affected by Typhoon Yagi had been restored; and as a result, stable power has been supplied again to over 5.98 million customers out of the approximately 6.1 million affected by the storm and floods (equivalent to 98 per cent),  according to updated information released on September 16 by Vietnam Electricity (EVN).

Thus more than 100,000 customers in the affected localities still remain without power.

EVN stated that due to the effects of the typhoon and its post-typhoon circulation, many power lines and distribution substations in various northern provinces and cities had experienced disruptions.

The post-storm circulation of the typhoon caused heavy rain and flooding  in 17 northern provinces, resulting in power outages for many customers. In addition to damage to the power grid, several areas were severely flooded, requiring temporary disconnection from the power system to ensure electrical safety for customers.

The units of EVN in Northern provinces have continued to urgently mobilize personnel, vehicles, and equipment to promptly address the aftermath of the natural disaster, working to restore power for remaining affected customers as quickly as possible, while still ensuring safety requirements are met.

To accelerate the recovery process from the natural disaster and restore power for customers affected by the storm and floods,  273 people from the Central Power Corporation (from six power companies, including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai), and 100 others from the Hanoi Power Corporation have been  dispatched to Quang Ninh province, one of the most affected localities,  to assist in restoring the power grid.

Reporting on the restoration of high-voltage lines, EVN stated that all 14 incidents on the 500 kilovolt lines have been resolved. As for the recently inaugurated 519-km 500 kilovolt transmission line (circuit 3) from Quang Trach in central Quang Binh province to Pho Noi in northern Hung Yen province, no disruption or damage was reported, according to the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT).

Most of the damage to the 500 kilovolt transmission line concentrated on the sections that run through Quang Ninh province and Hai Phong city.

EVN also reported that it has resolved 39 out of 40 incidents and restored 10 substations of the 220 kilovolt power grid.

As for the 110kV grid, EVN has restored 184 out of 190 incidents and brought 101 out of 104 110kV substations back into operation.
