Hanoi has unveiled a new plan to accelerate the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in the commercial sector between 2026 and 2030 as part of the city’s broader smart urban development strategy.
Under the plan, the capital aims to establish a comprehensive policy and legal framework to support the deployment, testing and expansion of IoT applications in commerce.
By 2030, Hanoi targets having between 50% and 70% of supermarket businesses applying IoT technologies in their operations. Key applications will include automated payment systems, inventory management, product traceability, and smart electronic labeling.
The city also aims for 50% of logistics enterprises to integrate IoT solutions into warehouse management and supply chain operations.
Authorities plan to gradually scale up successful pilot models across various commercial formats, including smart markets, smart logistics centres, intelligent warehouses, convenience stores and smart shopping malls.
In addition, all enterprises participating in pilot programs within key commercial sectors will receive training in IoT management and operations. Government officials and public employees from departments, agencies and local administrations will also be trained in overseeing IoT applications in commercial activities.
