Ho Chi Minh City has set a target of providing artificial intelligence (AI) training for 15% of its population by 2030, equivalent to about 2 million people, as part of efforts to build a tech-savvy workforce for the digital economy.
The initiative is part of the city’s AI for Citizens Program for the 2025–2030 period, which aims not only to popularize AI knowledge but also to equip residents with practical skills to apply AI in daily life, work, and education.
Under the plan, at least 1% of the population — more than 100,000 people — will receive AI-related training by 2026. The proportion is expected to reach 2% by 2027 and increase by about 5% annually during 2028–2029.
Around 80% of learners completing the program are expected to apply at least one AI tool in their work or daily activities.
The program targets civil servants, workers, students, and pupils, contributing to the development of a digital-ready workforce capable of adapting to a smart city environment and supporting sustainable economic growth.
