The International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said Vietnam is a bright star in the global economic sky and the country’s economic growth is expected to double that of the global economy.

She made the forecast at a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 20 in Hiroshima, Japan, as part of the Prime Minister’s trip to attend the expanded G7 Summit.

She spoke highly of Vietnam’s socio-economic management policy and affirmed that she and the IMF strongly support and will partner with Vietnam during its development process.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested the IMF continue with policy counseling for the Vietnamese Government regarding economic management and improvements of tools and policies related to fiscal, monetary, and financial restructuring.

He told Ms. Georgieva of Vietnam’s success in various fields, including establishing a stable financial market and an elevated national brand valued at $431 billion in 2022, with the country achieving the fastest growth worldwide in brand development in the 2020-2022 period. Vietnam also climbed 12 places in the World Happiness Report 2023.
