Losses and waste in public investment identified

A report on practicing thrift and combatting waste in the workplace in the 2016-2021 period from the National Assembly (NA) Supervision Delegation, which will be discussed at the ongoing NA session, noted that thousands of projects have violated regulations on investment procedures, causing losses and waste of nearly VND32 trillion ($1.3 billion). The report also identified other shortcomings causing waste in public investment, such as improper negotiations and contract signings, and inadequate project construction supervision, among others.

Planning adjustments at Dung Quat Economic Zone reviewed

The Ministry of Construction (MoC) has held a conference to evaluate a project adjusting the general planning for construction at the Dung Quat Economic Zone, in central Quang Ngai province, to 2035 and vision to 2050. The goal of the planning is to build the economic zone into a multi-sector, multi-field general economic zone worthy of its position as a dynamic economic center of the Central Key Economic Zone, the south-central coastal region, and Vietnam as a whole.

Upgrades for inland waterways

Upgrades for inland waterways

The government has issued measures for implementing the Planning for Inland Waterway Infrastructure in the 2021-2030 Period and Vision to 2050, which identifies 17 investment projects using State budget capital and a series of projects upgrading and expanding passenger and cargo ports using enterprise capital. A breakthrough mechanism on access to foreign preferential loans by the government will also be applied for infrastructure projects that effectively connect inland waterway traffic with seaports.
