Kien Giang set to become key national maritime economic hub

Cities of Rach Gia, Ha Tien, and Phu Quoc to form a major development triangle for the province’s economy.

Kien Giang province is working towards becoming a national maritime economic hub by 2030 and a strong national maritime economic hub by 2050, the Government News has reported.

This is among the key targets stipulated in Decision No. 2189/QD-TTG, signed by Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha and approving Kien Giang province’s planning for the 2021-2030 period and vision to 2050.

Rach Gia, Ha Tien, and Phu Quoc cities are to form a major development triangle for the province’s economy based on urban, trade, and coastal-oriented services.

Phu Quoc will become a center of high-quality ecological tourism services and beach and islands resorts of regional and international standard, connected to major economic centers in the region and the world, while Rach Gia will be for green trade and services with Ha Tien being a heritage urban area.

It is targeted that the province will maintain gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 7 per cent annually in the 2021-2030 period.

Under planning, Kien Giang will establish the Rach Gia Coastal Economic Zone and the Kien Giang Provincial Border Gate Economic Zone in the post-2030 period.
