By the end of August 2025, the total number of Vietnamese laborers working abroad reached 97,963, including 32,849 female workers, achieving 75.3% of the year’s plan, according to the Department of Overseas Labour under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The target for 2025 is to send approximately 130,000 Vietnamese workers abroad under contract.
Japan continued to lead as the top market for Vietnamese workers, receiving 43,905 laborers, followed by Taiwan (China) with 37,906, and South Korea with 8,923.
In addition to these three key markets, other markets maintained stable intake levels, such as mainland China with 2,000 Vietnamese laborers and Singapore with nearly 1,500. European markets also recorded initial positive results, with Romania accepting 458 laborers and Hungary 581.
According to the department, these results demonstrate the stability and sustainability of traditional markets, which have a high demand for labor, consistent reception policies, and are well-suited to the characteristics and capabilities of Vietnamese workers.
The European market, considered to have rich potential, has shown promising signs. Some markets, such as Romania and Hungary, have begun accepting Vietnamese laborers, though the numbers remain modest.
This highlights the need for stronger solutions to promote the development of new markets and to improve the quality of the labor force, especially in terms of foreign language proficiency and vocational skills, to meet the increasingly high demands of labor markets in this region.
