The Office of the Government issued Notice No. 215/TB-VPCP on July 22 with conclusions from Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh at a meeting of the Government’s Steering Committee to implement the Long Thanh International Airport project in southern Dong Nai province.
The project boasts many positive benefits and has been closely following its schedule, with more than 2,420.88 ha (95.61 per cent) of the site area as well as reserve land handed over in the first phase.
The technical blueprints for the passenger terminal have been completed and submitted for appraisal, while technical designs for airport infrastructure and general infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, hangars, and traffic connections, have been completed.
However, reports from units show that work remains unsatisfactory is some respects, such as site clearance and land handover in the first phase not being completed as committed, while the total volume of ground leveling has not met requirements.
To achieve all goals, with time running out and a huge workload still ahead, Deputy Prime Minister Thanh asked members of the Steering Committee, the Ministry of Transport (MoT), the Dong Nai Provincial People’s Committee, and related agencies to continue to make great efforts to resolve problems and difficulties.
He also requested that MoT set up a working group on the appraisal of technical designs, led by the MoT and with members from specialized agencies in the Ministry, the Ministry of Construction, and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), to direct the implementation of the appraisal process and ensure progress and compliance with regulations. The design appraisal and approval of the passenger terminal must be completed in July, for construction to begin in October.
Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister suggested that the ACV continue to closely follow construction progress on site, overcome any difficulties posed by harsh weather conditions, and ensure completion is on schedule.
The ACV, meanwhile, is to appraise and approve design documents for piles and foundations for the air traffic control tower and ensure construction progress from October.
