The Mekong Delta One Commune One Product (OCOP) Forum 2025, themed "Linking for Development - An Giang 2025," officially opened in Long Xuyen ward, An Giang Province, on the evening of September 25.
The Vietnam News Agency quoted the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment as reporting that the Mekong Delta currently accounts for 55% of the nation's total rice output, 56% of seafood production, and nearly 32% of its fruit production.
Within the framework of the forum, from September 25 to 28, practical activities are taking place, including the Mekong Delta OCOP Product Trade Connection Conference. Chaired by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the conference serves as a meeting point for businesses, distributors, and OCOP stakeholders to promote domestic and international product consumption.
Other activities include a display, introduction, and trade space for Mekong Delta OCOP products; a display space for typical OCOP products of Vietnam, showcasing outstanding OCOP products nationwide, combined with exhibitions, regional specialties, and livestreaming activities to promote and connect product consumption.
Speaking at the forum's opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Thanh Nam said with numerous potentials and advantages, the Mekong Delta region currently boasts the second-largest number of OCOP products nationwide, after the Red River Delta, with over 3,900 kinds of products from more than 2,000 OCOP entities, ranking three stars or higher. Among these, food products constitute the majority, at 82.3%.
To further develop OCOP products in the 2026-2030 period, Mr. Nam proposed that provinces and cities in the region focus on developing plans and orientations for growth. They need to strengthen product quality management associated with building reputable OCOP product brands for domestic and export markets, moving towards environmentally friendly, green, and sustainable development.
This includes paying attention to establishing specialized OCOP raw material zones according to production planning and standards. Simultaneously, OCOP product development should be linked with tourism services, traditional cultural festivals, and the organization of events to create open spaces for OCOP product promotion.
