Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for stronger efforts to accelerate the development of social housing while chairing a teleconference on October 24 with leaders of 17 provinces and cities with high housing demand.
PM Chinh, who is also Head of the Central Steering Committee for Housing Policy and Real Estate Market, noted that the Government has issued a resolution on building at least one million social housing units for low-income earners, workers, and those in the science and technology sectors during the 2021–2030 period, alongside local housing development programs and plans.
The goal for this year is to complete more than 100,000 units. So far, 696 social housing projects comprising approximately 640,000 units have been implemented nationwide.
The PM requested the conference to hold in-depth discussions to identify specific tasks and solutions to speed up construction in a rapid yet sustainable manner, ensuring housing access for those in need.
He also emphasized that a new government resolution should be issued to create favorable mechanisms and policies that balance the interests of all stakeholders. The resolution, he said, must enhance state management, clarify the responsibilities of local authorities, encourage enterprise participation, meet the needs of eligible citizens, and diversify credit sources to support social housing projects.
The Government leader said he agrees with some proposals that at least 50% of administrative procedures relating to social housing must be cut off.
