PM asks to enhance livestock and poultry disease prevention and control

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to take resolute measures to prevent and control diseases on livestock and poultry amid risks of further spreading, the Government News has reported.

African swine fever has been reported in 410 communes in 40 cities and provinces so far this year, foot-and-mouth disease in 44 communes of 13 cities and provinces, rabies in 34 cities and provinces, and A/H5N1 bird flu in seven provinces, according to official statistics from relevant agencies and localities.

Notably, one person died from being infected with the A/H5N1 bird flu virus and another was infected with the A/H9N2 bird flu virus.

In his dispatch sent to leaders of centrally-run cities and provinces and several ministries on June 16, the PM asked localities to completely handle outbreaks and prevent new ones from arising while supporting affected farmers.

It is essential to carry out the vaccination against diseases for at least over 80% of the total available livestock, according to the dispatch.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development was required to coordinate with other ministries, sectors, and localities to focus on directing, guiding and inspecting disease prevention and control in localities; and to closely monitor the epidemic situation to ensure early detection and warning and thorough handling of outbreaks.

The PM asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to enhance market management, and proactively detect and strictly handle cases of transporting and trading animals and products of unknown origins.
