The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province in central Vietnam has held a ground-breaking ceremony for Phase IIb of the Dung Quat – Sa Huynh coastal road project, with an investment estimated at nearly VND100 billion (nearly $3.8 million).
As a component project of the larger 109 km Dung Quat - Sa Huynh route, the 5.77 km road passes through Mo Cay and Lan Phong communes and is scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2026.
The full route starts by connecting to the coastal road from Da Nang city and its endpoint will adjoin the new coastal road of Gia Lai province. This entire route is part of the 2,838 km national coastal transport axis.
Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Sam said the Dung Quat - Sa Huynh coastal road is a strategic route for the province. It aims to open up new development space, strengthen regional connectivity, and link economic zones, industrial parks, and coastal service urban areas.
"This road will not only connect the Dung Quat Economic Zone—a leading national center for industry, energy, and petrochemicals—with the Sa Huynh Tourist Area—a region rich in cultural, historical, and marine tourism potential—but will also contribute to national defense, security, and the protection of the nation's sacred sea and island sovereignty," said Mr. Sam.
However, he also noted that the groundbreaking ceremony is just the beginning of a long journey, as the province has so far only completed 26.8 km of the project in Phase I.
