The Ministry of Transport has proposed raising the ceiling on domestic airfares by between VND50,000 and 250,000 ($2.1 and 10.5), depending on the length of the flight.
Under a draft circular, airfares will be capped at VND2.25 million ($95) for an economy-class one-way ticket on routes from 500 km to less than 800 km; VND2.89 million ($121) for routes from 800 km to less than 1,000 km; VND3.4 million ($143) for routes from 1,000 km to less than 1,280 km; and VND4 million ($168) for routes from 1,280 km.
The ceiling on airfares for routes of less than 500 km will remain at VND1.6-1.7 million ($67-72) for an economy-class one-way ticket.
Vietnam ferried 54.2 million air passengers last year, a 3.7-fold increase against 2021.
Under the Law on Civil Aviation, airlines determine prices for domestic air transport services within a framework set by the Ministry of Transport and must declare such prices to the ministry.
