A delegation from US semiconductor giant Marvell worked with the Da Nang City People’s Committee on January 15 to explore the environment and cooperative opportunities for semiconductor investment in the central city.
At the meeting, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Deputy Standing Chairman of the Da Nang City People’s Committee, identified semiconductor development as a key growth driver for the city in the time to come. The city is making every effort to prepare the necessary conditions to attract semiconductor companies to select Da Nang for expansions to their investment and business in Vietnam. This includes coordinating the holding of training courses for workforce development in the field.
He also expressed a desire for Marvell to clarify its human resources needs to help the city prepare appropriate training. Regarding infrastructure, support policies, taxes, and visas, etc., Mr. Minh said authorities will proactively study central policies to offer support for businesses investing in the city.
Representatives from Da Nang University and local departments and agencies shared plans for enrollment and specialized training in semiconductor design. They highlighted advantages in technology infrastructure, workforce, and incentives for Da Nang to stay ahead of investment trends in the field.
The city has organized workshops in the past and outlined solutions for developing the necessary workforce for the semiconductor industry. It also worked with and promote investment with companies and groups such as Marvell, Synopsys, Intel, Nvidia, ITSJ-G, and Qorvo in San Jose (US) regarding chip and AI development. The Da Nang City People’s Committee also signed an MoU with Synopsys regarding the semiconductor industry.
Da Nang is now focusing on researching and building mechanisms and policies to promote the development of semiconductor and chip human resources at the local level, concentrating on three groups: teaching staff, graduate engineers (including related majors), and students currently undergoing training. This is aimed at creating a skilled workforce that meets international standards for large enterprises.
Dr. Loi Nguyen, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Marvell Cloud Optics Business Group, expressed its keen interest in the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam in general and greatly appreciated the potential for development of the industry in Da Nang in particular. As one of the leading companies in semiconductor design and providing data infrastructure, ranking in the top 25 globally, Marvell has been in Vietnam since 2013. Marvell Vietnam currently has two offices in Ho Chi Minh City, with around 300 employees, and plans to expand to 500 employees in the near future. The company is interested in the city’s policies to promptly deploy and promote investment.
During this visit, the Marvell delegation conducted a practical survey of the Da Nang High-Tech Park and information technology zones in the city.
