Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that Vietnam and Indonesia work to boost two-way trade turnover to at least $15 billion by 2028 while meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo on May 9.

The Prime Minister met the Indonesian leader after arriving in Labuan Bajo in Indonesia to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

He suggested that Indonesia create optimal conditions for Vietnamese goods to access its market and to enhance maritime cooperation, including the setting up of a hotline to support fishing activities and sharing information on law enforcement at sea.

The two leaders also agreed to bolster ties in new fields such as energy transition, digital transformation, and infrastructure development.

They agreed that Vietnam and Indonesia will increase exchanges of delegations and meetings at all levels, especially during the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership this year, and capitalize on bilateral cooperation mechanisms, including the Committee for Bilateral Cooperation and the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.

The two countries will also actively carry out agreements signed, including an action plan for implementing the Vietnam - Indonesia strategic partnership in 2019-2023, and soon build an action plan for 2024-2028 to provide a basis for promoting more intensive and extensive cooperation.
