Vietnam is accelerating the transformation of its growth model, placing science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation at the core to enhance national competitiveness and promote rapid, sustainable development.
This shift aims to achieve the goal of becoming a high-income developed nation by 2045.
This vision was emphasized by the Party General Secretary and State President To Lam during a meeting on June 5 with Mr. Eric Schmidt, former Executive Chairman of Google, and a delegation of artificial intelligence (AI) experts currently on a working visit to Vietnam, reported the Vietnam News Agency.
In this spirit, the General Secretary and President requested that Mr. Eric Schmidt and the expert delegation continue to support Vietnam in building a vision, policy framework, and an ecosystem for AI development. He called for connecting international resources, technology enterprises, investment funds, research institutes, and world-leading experts to assist Vietnam in developing its human resources, tech-based businesses, and innovation capacity.
Furthermore, the Vietnam's top leader urged members of the delegation, including Mr. Christopher Nguyen, CEO of Aitomatic, to continue mobilizing overseas Vietnamese experts, intellectuals, and tech entrepreneurs to contribute their knowledge, experience, and resources to the country’s development.
Mr. Schmidt spoke highly of Vietnam’s progress, as well as the vision and determination of its leadership, particularly in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
He noted that Vietnam possesses many favorable conditions for AI development, most notably a young, dynamic workforce with a high capacity for rapid adaptation, alongside an increasingly supportive environment for innovation. He expressed confidence that AI would contribute significantly to Vietnam’s economic growth.
Mr. Schmidt shared that he is currently working with Vietnamese partners to implement AI cooperation initiatives, such as the "Tapestry" national multi-platform model project, the "Data OS" project for data and physical manufacturing, and applications of AI in general education.
He committed to leveraging his experience and extensive global network to connect Vietnam with suitable partners, supporting the country in promoting digital transformation, advancing AI development, and enhancing innovation capacity.
The former Google Chairman also expressed a desire to maintain ongoing dialogues with Vietnamese agencies, enterprises, research institutes, and universities to seek practical cooperation in human resource training, research and development (R&D), and the application of AI across various socio-economic sectors.
