Vietnam plans to build 13 liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants by 2030 under the National Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8), a recent conference to discuss the potential for developing the domestic gas power market heard.
Total capacity is estimated at 22,400 MW.
Investment in the 13 projects has been approved by the Prime Minister, with five now being implemented, four having selected investors, and the remainder still seeking investors.
Under PDP8, gas thermal power sources are to account for 24.8 per cent of the country’s total capacity by 2030 and representing the largest proportion in the energy structure.
Coal thermal power, hydropower, and onshore and offshore wind power are to make up 20 per cent, 19.5 per cent, and 18.5 per cent, respectively. Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee on Science, Technology and Environment Ta Dinh Thi said Vietnam has substantial potential to attract capital for developing gas power.
