Vietnam’s agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors recorded encouraging growth during the first five months of 2026, despite extreme weather conditions and persistently high input costs, according to the National Statistics Office.
The fisheries sector continued to perform strongly, with output in May estimated at 913,200 tons, up 4.3% from a year earlier. Fish production reached 636,400 tons, while shrimp output totaled 140,000 tons. In the first five months of the year, the country’s total fisheries output rose 3.5% year-on-year to approximately 3.96 million tons. Shrimp production recorded the strongest growth, increasing 6.8%.
Forestry production also expanded as favorable timber prices supported harvesting activities. Timber output in May was estimated at 2.67 million cubic meters, up 5.8% from a year earlier. In the first five months, timber production reached 8.69 million cubic meters, a 2.9% increase, while newly planted concentrated forest areas totaled 112,100 hectares.
Meanwhile, Vietnam harvested 2.22 million hectares of winter-spring rice as of May 20, equivalent to 75.7% of the cultivated area. In the Mekong Delta, the harvest was largely completed, with yields rising to about 7.4 tons per hectare. Total output in the region reached an estimated 9.23 million tons, reinforcing its role as the country’s largest rice-producing area.
