The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development’s Department of Livestock Production reported a 5.4% growth in the production value of the livestock industry in 2024 compared to 2023.
This impressive growth outpaces the overall 3.3% increase in the agricultural, forestry, and fishery sector.
According to Mr. Pham Kim Dang, Deputy Director of the department, the export turnover of livestock products in 2024 reached $533.6 million, marking a 6.5% rise from the previous year. Breaking down the figures, $122.9 million came from milk and milk products, while $172.1 million was from meat, meat by-products, and edible offal.
Vietnam exported approximately 1,700 live pigs and 1,200 live cattle in 2024, in addition to $1.05 billion worth of animal feed and raw materials for livestock production.
Notably, after extensive market negotiations, the General Administration of Customs of China has granted export permits to 11 Vietnamese dairy factories. This milestone follows the signing of the Protocol on the export of bird’s nests and bird’s nest products from Vietnam to China, enabling nine Vietnamese enterprises to enter this lucrative market.
Moreover, processed chicken from Vietnam is now being exported to Japan, Hong Kong (China), five countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, and Mongolia.
The ministry is actively negotiating with several countries’ authorities to further promote the export of Vietnamese livestock products
